FAQ | Fresh 48 Photography | Wellington Regional Medical Center

How exciting it was to visit baby Colton at Wellington Regional Hospital who was only 1 day old. Fresh 48 is just that, photographing your newborn baby within 48 hours during your hospital stay. Babies change so fast within days and it’s the perfect opportunity to capture those fresh moments. Keep reading for frequently asked questions and answers.

When is the best time for the photoshoot?

Hospital lights are not great for photos. I like to come in the daylight hours between 9am-1pm to use as much natural light as possible from the windows.

How can I prepare?

Feeding the baby right before our session is a great way to ensure they have a full belly and stays asleep. Keeping the room warm helps the baby stay comfortable and happy. Also, try to keep the bed, chair, nightstands free of clutter, I can help you with this! Do not worry if it’s not perfect, I will rearrange as needed.

What should I wear?

I recommend wearing something comfortable and not too constrictive since you just had a baby. Some moms like to bring their own robe, outfit, or wear the hospital gown. I recommend comfortable, wrinkle free, neutral colors for siblings and dad as well. I will bring wraps to swaddle the baby but you are welcome to bring outfits, hats, welcome signs or anything special that you like.

How long does the photoshoot last?

I try my best to get a variety and be quick since I know you are very busy with a new baby. It can last anywhere from 30-60 minutes. It’s not an all day thing so you can go back to enjoying the precious time with your family.

When is the best time to schedule our session?

You can contact me when you are pregnant and schedule with your due date. It’s never too early to schedule. Due dates are an estimate but I will keep a few days available around that time. Once your little one arrives please contact me asap. If you have a scheduled C-section on induction we can have a better estimate.

Can extended family be present?

I strongly recommend that during our photoshoot to only have parents, siblings, and baby present. Hospital rooms can get very crowed and make it more difficult to have a quiet, relaxed, intimate session. Large gathering can be overwhelming for you and your baby. If you would like to capture photos with grandparents, they are welcome to join in at the end of the session.

What if my baby is in the NICU?

In this case we may need to work with hospital staff to find out what we are and aren’t able to do. If possible I will photograph in the NICU. In the event that I am unable to photograph the Fresh 48 as planned, your deposit will be applied to a future session.

How long is the turnaround time?

Turn around time is anywhere from 2-3 weeks.
