What to Expect from a Cake Smash Photoshoot

I will guide you through the process to make it fun and easy. Upon inquiry, we will decide together on a color scheme or theme. I love when parents share inspiration photos and I will share some as well. Together, we will make your vision come to life. During the photoshoot all you need to bring with you is your cute baby and outfits. I recommend bringing 2 outfits, one for portraits and another for the messy cake smash. I will provide the set up, cake, and everything else that is needed. As a mom, I understand how hard it is just to get out of the house with your children somedays. I want to make this experience stress free and as easy for you as possible.

After many years of working with families I have come up with a system so that everything goes smoothly. I love to start with family and siblings first, followed by portraits of baby in outfits 1 and 2. This way if parents have other children they are free to play after. Next is the big exciting moment of the cake smash! Best part ever! Babies are encouraged to get messy and dig in the cake. Last, I offer milk bath photos in a vintage bathtub. If for some reason your baby is not a fan of the cake I know they will laugh and splash away in the tub.

How Can I Prepare My Child for the Cake Smash Photoshoot?

My best advice is for parents to let their child try a small piece of cake a few days before the session and encourage them to touch the cake. Some babies have a hard time with textures so this really helps them become more comfortable. If they know how tasty is it, they will become even more excited to get into it. By doing this you can also find out before hand if your child has an allergy. Please notify me if so, we will come up with another plan.

Timing is everything! The best time is right after nap time. We want the best smiles possible so naps and fully bellies are so important. You may also bring your baby’s favorite small snacks. Bring snacks that are not messy like cheerios. Cheerios are great for hiding behind a cake in case they don’t love the cake.

Best Locations for an Outdoor Cake Smash in NEPA

I will help you with some suggestions. The main thing I look for is beautiful lighting so an outdoor space that is open to allow sunlight in. I also aim to find a location that is quiet and not distracting for the baby. Also, the location must be safe and easy to walk to. Some ideas include a park, an open field, area with a lake view or even your own backyard! If you have a place that you love to go with your family or an activity you love to do together, let’s photograph there! Examples of this includes: a lake house that you spend all summers in, your favorite playground, or a flower field. Not every session has to be the same, I love exploring and creating something unique and meaningful to your family.

When is it the Best Time to Book My Baby’s Cake Smash Photoshoot?

I recommend booking in advance at least 3 weeks before their first birthday. If you would like to have the photos before the birthday to post on social media or use prints for the party then let’s book your date sooner than later! Turn around time is 2-3 weeks so plan to book about 2-3 weeks before your baby’s birthday or party day.
