FAQ | Fresh 48 Photography | Scranton PA Newborn Photographer

Hey, mama! Bringing a new baby into the world is such an incredible moment, and trust me, those first hours fly by in a blur. That’s where Fresh 48 photography comes in—to capture all those sweet, sleepy, wrinkly little details before they change in the blink of an eye. I know you probably have lots of questions, so let’s chat about everything you need to know!

What is a Fresh 48 Session?

A Fresh 48 session is a relaxed, natural newborn photoshoot done within the first 24 to 48 hours after birth, usually at the hospital, birth center, or even at home if that’s where you delivered. It’s all about capturing those first snuggles, tiny fingers, baby yawns, and the overwhelming love you feel in those first hours. No fancy props or posing—just pure, real moments of you and your new baby.

When Should I Book My Fresh 48 Session?

The best time to book is during your second trimester so I can reserve space around your due date. Since babies have their own schedules, I’ll be on call and ready to coordinate once your little one makes their grand entrance!

What Should We Wear for the Fresh 48 Session?

I recommend wearing something comfortable and not too constrictive since you just had a baby. Some moms like to bring their own robe, outfit, or wear the hospital gown. I recommend comfortable, wrinkle free, neutral colors for siblings and dad as well. I will bring wraps to swaddle the baby but you are welcome to bring outfits, hats, welcome signs or anything special that you like.

How Long Does a Fresh 48 Session Last?

Not long at all—about 45 minutes to an hour. I know you’ll be soaking in all the newborn goodness (and catching up on rest when you can), so I keep it short and sweet while capturing all the important details.

How can I prepare?

Feeding the baby right before our session is a great way to ensure they have a full belly and stays asleep. Keeping the room warm helps the baby stay comfortable and happy. Also, try to keep the bed, chair, nightstands free of clutter, I can help you with this! Do not worry if it’s not perfect, I will rearrange as needed. The most important thing is to relax and soak in the moment—this isn’t about perfection, it’s about capturing the love, snuggles, and pure joy of these first hours together.

Can extended family be present?

I strongly recommend that during our photoshoot to only have parents, siblings, and baby present. Hospital rooms can get very crowed and make it more difficult to have a quiet, relaxed, intimate session. Large gathering can be overwhelming for you and your baby. If you would like to capture photos with grandparents, they are welcome to join in at the end of the session.

What if my baby is in the NICU?

In this case we may need to work with hospital staff to find out what we are and aren’t able to do. If possible I will photograph in the NICU. In the event that I am unable to photograph the Fresh 48 as planned, your deposit will be applied to a future session.

When Will I Get My Photos?

I know you’ll be excited to see your photos (and share them with family and friends!), so I aim to deliver your edited gallery within 1 week—quick enough that everything still feels fresh and magical!
